Kaspichan...

As hard as Dobrich was yesterday, the orphanage in Kaspichan was bittersweet and a welcome relief from yesterday.
While the orphans in Dobrich were hard to leave because of the situation we found them ... the orphans here were happier, much better
cared for and were a few years away from experiencing the Dobrich orphanage.

Desi came from this orphanage and 14 years later, she returned today. She approached the return with some obvious concerns and worries - she wasn't sure what to expect. What was waiting for her in Kaspichan....was overwhelming to say the least.

Desi was welcomed with open arms by the women running the orphanage - she laughed and cried with them. It was an unbelievable moment and the crew was caught up in the emotion as well.

The orphanage in Kaspichan was welcoming and helpful, they gave us incredible access.

Our next stop was Shuman's baby orphanage. The babies here range from special needs to just babies and infants needing some loving attention. The orphanage houses 150 children. With that many children, it's difficult to give needed attention and stimulus to a young child, so their development is stunted. The children here are beautiful and it was sad to see them in the condition they are in. They live in a clean environment but that's just the structure surrounding them. They are struggling for attention.

One little boy, probably 5 or 6, had so much fun playing with me he started calling me "Chechian" - which means Uncle in Bulgaria. Another little guy called me his older brother. Both little ones said "chao" to me with a kiss on the cheek.

Another good day...another day to miss my family...another day to feel blessed.
